About

Tim Chan

Tim Chan is a recognised thought leader at the intersection of AI, capital markets, and sustainability across Asia Pacific. A former Executive Director at Morgan Stanley — where he built and led the region's top-ranked thematic research team, earning five consecutive years at the top and the Extel top individual analyst award in 2026 — he has advised institutional investors, engaged corporate boards, and shaped how major financial institutions think about the AI transition, capital markets dynamics, and long-term value creation. His research developed frameworks on AI adoption and corporate competitiveness, capital markets governance reform, and the geopolitical forces reshaping Asia's investment landscape.

Earlier in his career, he advised the Hong Kong and Macau governments on long-term policy and economic strategy; led a team at Ernst & Young working with corporates across Asia on strategic planning and regulatory transition; and spent time on the buy side at Manulife Investment Management, partnering with portfolio managers across ten markets to integrate thematic and structural analysis into live investment decisions. It is this cross-sector vantage — spanning public sector, consulting, buy-side, and sell-side — that informs the 100+ institutional research reports he has authored and the conviction he brings to every engagement.

Tim is a Board Director of CFA Society Hong Kong — the largest CFA society in Asia and the fifth-largest in the world — where he serves as Chair of the Continuing Education Committee. He is also a Visiting Scholar at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he teaches a course on the risks and opportunities of social issues.
